This mix was made using only my dad's records.
Every one of them an original pressing,
stuff he bought when he was about as old as I am now--give or take a decade.
My dad never played an instrument really,
and my mom always joked that he was actually tone-deaf.
But man, what a taste in music--and in his own way, what an ear too.
My dad could tell you who was playing drums and
what year the record was made after hearing the first 2 bars of a song.
Maybe his mind never quite figured out
how to communicate with his hands or his voice in a musical way--
but he certainly had a mind for music.
Some of these records were his favorites,
some of them are my favorites,
and some of them I listened to for the first time while
I was putting this mix together--discovering new favorites.
Dad, this one's for you.

私の母さんは、彼が実は歌がとってもヘタなのよ、と常に冗談を言っていました。
でも、父さんは音楽愛好家であり素晴らしい耳を持っていました。
だって曲の最初の二小節を聴いただけで
いつの年代にレコーディングされ、誰がドラムスを演奏していたかがわかるのですから。
多分、彼はそのセンスをどのように表現したらよいかわからなかったと思います。
しかし、音楽への確かな思いを持っていました。
これらのレコード達は彼のお気に入りでしたし
それらは私のお気に入りでもあります。
その上、このミックスをまとめる間にも
新たなお気に入りに出会いました。
お父さん、これはあなたのmixだよ。
